Hi All,

I wonder if anyone can help my Mum with advice, she has been diagnosed with Fibomyalgia some time ago and it is getting much worse. The pain sometimes is excruciating and she gets very weepy with it. My mum is 72 and takes Co dydramol for the pain and Diazapam at times to help her to sleep. I wonder if there is a better pain relief out there which she has not heard of and may help her.

Or if there is other treatments which would help, I would be very grateful for advice please. My mum and I don't always get along, but I do not like to think of her in pain. I told her I would ask on here for advice, anything at all which may help.

Thank you very much.

Lorna xx Smile

Hi Lorna,

I don't have fibromyalgia but a lot of people who have it take amytryptalline or related antidepressants. They take them at night to help the muscles relax and promote more restful sleep.
Your Mum could ask her GP about these.
Hope she finds something to help.

Hi Lorna,

I don't have Fibromyalgia either but have been taking 10mg Amitriptyline to help me sleep with my (still quite new) RA. I've found it really helpful and am now trying to reduce it and see how I go. I take it at about 7pm to take effect for going to bed between 10pm-11pm. If I take it too late in the evening I'm really drowsy the next day and find it really hard to wake up.

Hope that helps a bit,

Vicky xx

Hi Lorna

Sorry about your mum. When I was very bad with pain I took codeine, neurofen and paracetamol but you would have to get codeine on prescription. It certainly helped a lot and enabled me to move about a bit. I hope she is feeling better soon. Hope you are well at the moment.
